We are dedicated to reducing harmful drinking and supporting responsible, informed choices about alcohol.
We aim to accelerate progress through the UN-endorsed whole-of-society approach, working with governments, civil society, and the private sector.
Together, we are contributing globally to international goals such as the World Health Organization’s Global Monitoring Framework on Noncommunicable Diseases, which includes reducing the harmful use of alcohol by at least 10% by 2025, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3.5.
Our member companies also support a broader range of SDGs and are strengthening their efforts through continued collaboration.
Our members are committed to reducing the harmful use of alcohol and have a long history of working in partnership with others as part of a whole-of-society approach.

Harmful Consumption, Unlawful Sales and Illicit Trade
Over the past decade, binge drinking, drinking and driving, and underage drinking have declined in many countries. A 20% global decline in alcohol-attributable mortality from 2010-2019 suggests the UN’s strategy to reduce the harmful use of alcohol through a whole-of-society approach is working.
IARD members are committed to building on these positive trends and actively support international goals to reduce harmful drinking. This includes delivering on the recommendations presented to the sector in the United Nations 2018 Political Declaration on noncommunicable diseases, in particular by taking concrete steps towards eliminating the marketing, advertising, and sale of alcohol products to minors.
Furthermore, IARD actively supports the targets in the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Alcohol Action Plan 2022–2030 and United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3.5 and 17.16.
